Create a GitHub Repository for an existing Unity project — in 7 steps

Ok, you’ve been working on a Unity project, and now you’ve decided it’s important enough that you need a repository so you share it with your team or just impress the world with your brilliance.

Here’s the 7 steps you need to perform — I.C.I.T.C.R.P.

Initialize the repository
$ git init

Configure git large file storage
$ git lfs install
$ touch .gitattributes
Update .gitattributes with the following:

Track your project
$ git add -A

Commit
$ git commit -am “Initial commit”

Rename the master branch to main
$git branch -m master main

Push to the cloud
In GitHub, create a new repository
Copy the https repository link
$ git remote add origin paste-link-here
$ git push -u origin main
